F R E E D O M S C H O O L

F R E E D O M L A N D offers programs and events for community learning and wisdom-sharing through Freedom Schools. Our “classrooms” decolonize how we learn—taking the shape of participatory circles, workshop series, kitchen-table-talks, and more in topics related to Afro-Indigenous Liberatory Praxis. Our ancestral approach teaches us to wholly embody liberation with mind, body, and spirit. Together we are unlearning internalized oppression and practicing Freedom.

Your organization can partner with us to offer a specific set of programming that builds shared community. You can also attend our Freedom School programs as an individual (no one turned away for lack of funds).

VIRTUAL Liberatory Orientation to the Land: Affinity Space for BIPOC

Bringing Indigenous land acknowledgement into practice, BIPOC resident artists and scholars are invited to this virtual ceremony to orient to the land's complex history of slavery, cultural resistance, and Indigenous stewardship. We will gather in circle on Zoom to engage decolonial liberatory praxis that ground us in relationship with the land and each other. Through Afro-Indigenous Gulf South healing folqways of ancestral ritual, storytelling, and freedom singing we address lineages of racist land-based trauma and cultivate a kinship network of support.
